Kattastrophic Web Design Services

One of the services I offer is website design and maintenance. I work with small organizations or individuals looking to move onto the internet or revamp their existing websites, so my price range is on a sliding scale based upon my client's budget. I work with each client separately on an semi-formal basis.

Beginning the Project: What I need from you

* I like to set up a face-to-face meeting if possible. If you lives in another state, discussions and exchanges may be done over the phone or via chat or email. I make it a habit to get to know the people I work with. At this initial meeting or series of meetings, I assess your needs as far as your business or public image goes, as well as your budget and committment to handling a website.

* Next, I need a mission statement of sorts, explaining what the purpose of your website will be. It doesn't have to be anything fancy - just an idea of what your website is for. There has to be a goal in mind from the beginning - whether it be business advertisement or a personal archive. I also ask that you choose a theme, or a general "attitude" you want your site to have. Themes can be classic, cool, silly, fun, serious, dark, etc. This helps in deciding the layout and how information will be presented to the site visitor.

* Once we have the goal and theme, I'll ask you to make a list of the different pages you would like to have linked from the home page, and to give me an idea of the content that will go on said pages (text, pictures, other links, etc.).

* When I have all this information, I will put together some sample pages for you to view. We can look at the samples together, pick one (or several), and discuss any changes or additions to improve it. By now I will have a good idea of what to charge for the whole project, so I will give a more specific estimate at around this time of meeting. Prices start at $200 flat setup fee, and go up from there depending on the commission and extras.

* As the site begins to take shape, I will continually work closely with the client to achieve the style, look, and goal they set for themselves at the beginning. When we finally have a finished product, I walk them through the process of setting up a webserver account and domain name.

Cost and Payment Breakdown

There is a one-time setup fee starting from $200, which is the cost of commissioning the site and building it, and spending time putting it up and tweaking it as the client wishes. This fee varies per customer budget and requirements. It can be paid all at once, or in smaller installments. From then on, small changes are done free of charge. Larger changes, such as a new look to the site or multiple additions, will be an extra maintenance fee, usually around $50. As mentioned above, I charge clients on a sliding scale. Everyone's budget is different. As long as you're honest with me, I'll return the favor and do my best to make your site look as professional as possible, regardless of what you are paying me.

NOTE: There will be purchases a client will make which are separate from my services:

1. Webspace: In order to put your website online, you must purchase webspace. Some people use free webservers (which have ads), but more professional sites use their own paid servers (with no ads, and greater room for customization). Prices for webservers can run anywhere from $4/month and upwards. I have a few select companies I like to work with, and if you'd like, you can give me your information and I can directly set up everything for you - you don't even need to see the server. Remember, this will be a separate charge from the setup fee for my own services.

2. Domain name: Unless you have a business domain name already, most people like to have a specific address point to their page so it's easier to find, like "www.applefarmerunion.com" or "www.herculesfanclub.org", whatever your choice may be. Domains generally cost at around $10-20/year. Your website can function without a specific domain name, but most people don't like having to give out IP or long web addresses like "http://62.945.018" or "www.geocities.com/~laracroftaddict/index.html"- it's hard for people to remember. Again, this is a separate charge from my services.

Still with me and interested? Drop me a line and we can set up an appointment to talk. Send an email to kattastrophicdesign@gmail.com with the subject heading "Website Commission". Please include your full name, and what sort of site you are requesting.
